Got Shot Today - 5 times
Written by jason on October 30, 2007 – 6:27 pm -The trip is feeling more and more like a reality. Cindi and I took care of the first few months of our trip last night.
We officially signed up and paid our deposit to Utila Dive Center. We are going to finally finish our PADI Divemaster and SCUBA Instructor training. I can’t tell you how long I have wanting to do this…AND I am lucky enough to accomplish this goal with the GIRL FOR ME!!
One small hurdle still needs to be accomplished….get this:
Cindi can’t go underwater without plugging her nose. How the hell did she get certified to dive in the first place? It is true that while diving, she has a mask that covers her eyes AND nose. But what if that gets kicked off? I have been trying to help her with this enigma all summer…and she will definately need to get it figured out. It’s water…not crank, glue, or [insert favorite huffing substance here].
We are leaving for this part of our journey on January 6th. Heading straight for Utila to knock out the training. Dive training will take about 2 months…and we aren’t heading to Asia until sometime after April 16th. Cindi is an old pro in this area of the world, so she has also promised to show me around Hounduras, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama - who knows. More to come quickly on the entire journey and itenerary.
Today - I got shots. Yes 5 of them. Could have been 7 or 8…but luckily I stepped on a dirty heroin needle last year and had to update my tetanus.
I am now covered for everything the CDC says you should have:
- Polio
- MMR
- Tetanus
- Meningitis
- Hepatitus A and B
- Yellow Fever
- Typhoid Fever
The lady scared me about Japanese Encephylitus…somthing about my junk falling off, but the shots are like 600$ - so I will just hope the DEET does its duty.
Later…Jason

New addition to the family
Written by cindi on October 25, 2007 – 9:29 pm -Jason’s new toy arrived today. We are bummed because it’s rainy so we can’t go out and play with it. Here it is:
It’s a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. Jason said we had to get the IS because I don’t know how to hold the camera still. I think he just wants it for when he’s drunk.

Farewell Eaton Court
Written by cindi on October 19, 2007 – 9:14 pm -It’s 9:58 PM Friday night - the last night Jason and I will be spending on our home. The home we have shared for 3 fabulous years. We have been packing and moving for the past several days and tomorrow is the big move. Everything out. It still does not seem real. In just 3 short months we will be in a foreign country with most of what we own on our backs. I am beyond excited. I am also way too exhausted to write anything meaningful or clever so I will just post this poem. It’s titled ‘Food for Thought’.
‘Why do you do it?’ friends often ask, perplexed,
Brows raised, minds sorely vexed.
‘The world out there is dangerous!
Aren’t you scared? Why do this?
You need steady work, a house, two cars!
You have only a motorbike, and sleep under stars!’
Dear friend, if you must ask, you cannot know
This curiosity that drives me so.
To you it is hidden; in me rises unbidden!
But one day the world I’ll have ridden
By iron steed, then perhaps this need
Will have vanished, finally vanquished!
That day will find me on deathbed,
With no regrets for the life I led.
Will you be able to say the same?
Or will you despair a life worn plain?
I will stake my Himalayan memories
Against your estate of a thousand trees.
Pit my Thai sunset
Against your private jet.
Weigh my horse rides at sunrise
To your Italian suits and ties.
I’ll rejoice in friends before I go,
Not the figures of my stock portfolio.
And, amazingly, there are more like me;
They reject slavery, and are truly free.
They took the chance we all had,
And honestly it makes me sad
That you didn’t.
You thought you couldn’t…
What?
Live without the luxuries
Of all our modern amenities?
You choose the bonds of mortgage,
but claim to be free,
Wasting a lifetime absorbed by TV.
Why watch it? but live it!
One life’s all you get!
Don’t put off ’til morrow and continue to borrow
The lives of strangers; ’tis the greatest of dangers
To the soul
Which grows old
Before its time.
Hercules, Columbus,
Guevara, Odysseus,
Champlain, Agamemnon,
The list goes on…
What have they in common?
Regardless man or god,
The soil of continents they trod,
Not in search of gold but adventure!
Not growing old ’cause they ventured
Far from safety; but far be it from me
To Judge…
The pitiless pity us
With souls black pitted.
Pray! save it for those less spirited.
For us… our horizons are unlimited.
I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I will miss the comfort of this house, my car, the TiVo, a comfortable bed, and all the conveniences my ‘normal’ life provides for me……but I am ready to put it on hold for this once in a lifetime chance to travel the world with my very favorite person. Goodbye Fort Mill and goodnight!

Cindi Mows the Lawn!
Written by jason on October 15, 2007 – 8:35 pm -Hey Everyone….
Welcome to our site….”our” means jason and cindi. Yes - most of you know us and know what we are planning. We decided to put this site up to log all of cindi’s “special” moments on our travels around the world. We also wanted to log the stressful times leading up to the trip.
So… yeah - check this out:
I was shredding the slopes in the Andes mountains in the beautiful country of Chile. I WISH I had a cool story - but instead I was at work. Stepped off a curb and rolled the ankle. Nasty huh?
So Cindi mowed the lawn and made me soup. She is hot with lawn equipment. Too bad she still won’t touch the weedeater.
So - enjoy the posts to come. Please excuse the lame-ass theme for now - we are going to build a custom one soon.
